Manager of Production and Facilities

Brooklyn performance and civic space JACK seeks an experienced and dependable team member to oversee the operations and maintenance of our 50-seat theater and to support occasional off-site events. 

The position will be full-time and generally require no more than 40 hours per week. If more than 40 hours is required, it will be offset by fewer hours during non-production weeks.

Applications will be accepted through February 25, 2022 with a position start date in March 2022. 


Production Responsibilities (approx. 20 hours/week with additional hours during the 22 weeks of performance per year) :

  • Communicate with artists and renters regarding technical needs;

  • During production week, be the main JACK representative to the technical team, orienting them to all tech elements of our space and ensuring that the production plans are in accordance with our own space guidelines; 

  • Support the artist during load-in by helping with light hang & focus, rearranging risers, etc.; 

  • Run the light or sound board for performances (approximately 60 - 70 performances a year, for an average of 6 performances per month); 

  • Work with the Front of House and Stage Management team to ensure smooth operations for performances;

  • Assist with strike.

Facilities Management Responsibilities (approx. 10 - 20 hours/week):

  • Supervise rentals - prepare the space, orient renters, and complete any break down/strike that needs to happen afterwards; 

  • Troubleshoot technical issues with JACK equipment;

  • Maintain inventory; 

  • Manage the condition of the physical space, including overseeing maintenance projects and contractors as needed;

  • Respond to off-hours emergencies, reporting to the site when required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Experience in premises/facilities operations management and/or in technical theater, preferably in a theater or arts organization.

  • Eagerness to be an active participant in and meaningful contributor to JACK’s ongoing work in fueling experiments in art and activism.

  • Proactive and resourceful

  • Familiarity with/ability to learn ETC Express light board and Q-lab software.

  • Confidence with a tool box 

  • Comfortable on ladders

  • Ability to lift approximately 40 pounds

COMPENSATION: This is a full-time, exempt position, which requires a mix of daytime, evening and weekend hours. Hours will be both remote and in person not to exceed an average of 40 hours in a week. Salary is $54,000/year. Benefits include health insurance, paid leave, vacation and paid holidays.
