Catherine Cox Evans | Board Member

Catherine Cox is a Tony Award–nominated Broadway actress whose distinguished career spans stage, television, directing, and education. Her Broadway credits include leading roles in Footloose, Oh, Coward! (Tony Nomination), Baby (Drama Desk Award), Rumors, Music Is, Whoopee!, Barnum, and One Night Stand. Off-Broadway, she has performed in productions such as William Finn’s In Trousers, The Memory Show, Rap Master Ronnie, and The Waves.

She appeared as Oolie in the Los Angeles production of City of Angels and has extensive regional theatre experience. Her television work includes Law & Order and The Cosby Show. As a director, she has helmed productions of Baby, Quilters, Once on This Island, Seussical, Bye Bye Birdie, and A…My Name Is Alice.

A dedicated educator, Catherine has taught Musical Theatre Performance at AMDA for fourteen years, served as adjunct professor at Queens College, and was selected for the inaugural musical theatre faculty at Manhattan School of Music. She founded and directed Broadway Triple Threat, a ten-season musical theatre intensive, and has been a guest artist at Muhlenberg College.

Having built a celebrated career in commercial theatre, Catherine is now excited to focus on experimental and activist theatre, championing work that pushes boundaries and fosters deeper artistic dialogue.

She remains committed to community service, volunteering with West Side Campaign Against Hunger, God’s Love We Deliver, Meals on Wheels, NY Cares, and City Harvest, and looks forward to engaging with the Clinton Hill community through the arts.

Married to composer David Evans (Associate Conductor of Wicked), mother to Joe and Henry and proud grandmother to JJ, Catherine has also authored two plays, Sweet Betsy and The Divide.
