Two Thousand Six Hundred and Something

A lecture about performing a text
By Jeremy M. Barker
Mon., Sept. 19, 2016 at 8 pm
What does it mean to take a text that describes extreme violence and translate it into a visual medium, for the stage? Inspired by an article he was commissioned to write for American Theatre magazine on the Goodman Theater’s adaptation of Roberto Bolaño’s novel 2666, Jeremy Barker’s lecture performance explores the relationship between fact and fiction, word and image, and authenticity and illusion. Consisting of original research into Bolaño’s novel, its real-world inspiration, and three separate theatrical adaptations performed over the past decade, the piece attempts an exhaustive account of one of the most important novels of the 21st century.

TICKETS: $10, cash only at the door
