JACK is thrilled to announce an open call for theater/performance and dance artists for two-week residencies in our space during the pandemic shutdown. With full access to our lighting, sound and video equipment, these residencies are intended to give artists an opportunity to deepen their craft, explore, experiment, and develop new work. Artists are encouraged to apply if they fit into one of these categories:
JACK Co-Directors, Jordana De La Cruz and Alec Duffy will select seven artists for two-week residencies in the time period of March 2021 - August 2021.
Each resident artist will receive a $500 stipend for expenses such as transportation of materials, rental of equipment, etc.
At the beginning of the residency, a JACK staffer will provide an orientation and then give the artist sole access to the space for the following two weeks. JACK staff will not be onsite during the residency, but will be available to troubleshoot should issues arise. Click here for information about JACK’s space and equipment inventory.
There is no expectation for a culminating public component of the residency.
The deadline for applications is Sunday, February 28, 2021; applications can be submitted through this form.
SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Our curatorial process for these residencies will mirror our process in putting together a typical performance season. At JACK, we center the voices of people of color and welcome those in solidarity with our collective freedom. We seek work that is bold in its experimentation with form and/or content and artists with a unique vision and whose work is intentional, urgent, and adventurous.
2. Balance of artistic disciplines across the cohort of resident artists.
3. Value to the artist of the two-week residency at this time.
Please note: Given the pandemic and the intimacy of our space, the responsibility for maintaining safety protocols will be on the resident artists. JACK has an Energy Recovery Ventilation system (ERV) -- an air ventilation system that circulates fresh air into the space, drawing out the old air at the same time.
Any questions can be submitted to info@jackny.org.
